Build a Career in Real Estate without Social Media
We have all been led to believe that social media is the only way to build a successful career in real estate. How true is that? We can safely say that many people have had incredibly successful careers before social media. Is that still possible? If you are the type of person who isn’t comfortable with social media there are other ways for you to grow your career.
What about the network you already have?
It’s true! Your current network may be large or small but it is your network and you have one. I have an idea. Go and get a piece of paper and without using your phone or a contact list write down the name of everyone that you can possibly think of. Go ahead, I’ll wait.
Tada! There it is! Your social network. This is a great network because these are people that you have already made contact with. Now you need to make sure that they all know you are in real estate. There are plenty of ways to make contact, however, directly is the best way to go. Now is not the time to be shy.
We want you to think globally, but you work locally.
You work and live in a community where every person you come in contact with each day can be added to your network. Many of them will need a real estate professional to work with at some point. Let’s look at some ways that you can do that.
Talk to people
Seems simple enough but it might be something you can do more of. Don’t be shy, let everyone know who you are and that you’re in real estate. Strike up conversations while you’re standing in line waiting for a coffee and follow that up with a business card and a smile.
Business Cards
I really think that the power of a business card is taken for granted. Design a unique card and leave them everywhere. People are generally friendly, however never walk away without handing them a business card. Pin business cards up in the local laundromat or wherever there are community bulletin boards.
Tried, tested and true flyers and posters
For hundreds of years flyers have been used in promotions and there isn’t any reason why you can’t use them too! Make sure you are putting posters where people will see them, for example, many grocery stores and businesses have bulletin boards. Remember to bring tape and thumbtacks.
Promotional gifts and ideas
There are many ideas for promotional gifts, for example you can have pens and rulers with your name and phone number on them or perhaps a calendar. You could do something as simple as buying packets of seed from the local store. Take the pocket of seeds, staple your business card on them and pick a street and put one in every mailbox.
Put your website blog to good use
If you don’t have a real estate website this may be the time for you to get one. Most modern real estate platforms have a way for you to write articles and blog. Your articles don’t have to be technical miracles they just need to be written for homeowners and the things that interest them. You need to write on a regular and consistent basis and add people to your mailing list so that you can send them your new articles.

Build a Career in Real Estate without Social Media, it is all about communication
How and how many people you communicate with will make the difference. However, do not completely discount social media because it does have a value for your business. Social media and your website are both places where people can learn more about you, but there are other ways to develop good working relationships. Moreover, it is possible to build a successful career without focusing all your effort on social media.
